Ruth Negga hasn't looked at a script since Oscar nomination
Ruth Negga felt lucky that she had work lined up with her TV show Preacher.
Ruth Negga isn't in a rush to line-up more movie projects following her Oscar nomination.
The relatively unknown actress was propelled into the spotlight during the 2016-2017 awards season thanks to her performance in civil rights drama Loving.
She was nominated for multiple awards, including a Golden Globe and an Academy Award, but despite the career boost and increase in job offers, Ruth is taking her time and carefully plotting her next move.
“I’m not in a rush,” she told Britain's Daily Telegraph. “I’m not that kind of person. I move quite slowly in my work. It’s important for me to figure out what I would like to do and what’s possible before I get sucked up into any whirlwind.”
While she may not have locked down any film offers, Ruth already knew she would have the season two of TV series Preacher to work on following the awards season, and she's glad she had that to focus on.
“To close the door on all that heightened emotion and excitement, to hear Meryl Streep call your name, or walk on the iconic red carpet at Cannes, and then find yourself staring into the abyss would have been quite a shock,” she continued. “Thankfully, I got to come back to a job with people I love and admire.”
While she loves her job, she admits she gets homesick for London sometimes and was excited to get back to the British capital, where she lives with boyfriend and co-star Dominic Cooper, whom she has been dating since 2010.
“I try to surround myself with good people... people I can laugh with, who I’ve known for years outside of this strange world," she smiled.
